yooooooyyyyoooooo I love these lil horror "bites". You keep getting better my friend! Make some more nightmare fuel! Also, you deserved to get punched lol.
Thanks so much for the time you took to make this game. I titled it "the Nightmare" in the video because I noticed that's what it was titled on the game's opening screen. one of the things that silent hill captures well is a feeling of dread. in silent hill 2, the fog settled on the town creates what I believe to be a true essence of horror: not necessarily creatures popping out at you, but the very thought that, at any moment, they can. the monsters that live in our imagination may at times be more terrifying than those which manifest before our eyes, and you demonstrate well that the mind, fragile as it is, can make of a broken twig or slamming door the ghouliest of spectres. and, likewise, that things aren't always as they appear, and we should be careful when reading any journal entry to read with caution:) the only complaint i have is that i want more, which speaks to a job well done.
I just realized that the title of the game is "silent hill: the nightmare" but i just said "silent hill".... sorry. but all in all it's a well made game, got me to jump a couple of times soayeee you did that! here's my gameplay if you wanna see how i reacted
Maybe removing silent hill from the name and uploading a video showing the gameplay would be a good idea, most silent hill fan projects get taken down fast
Great atmosphere, and great game, however to help you in your future projects I would like to suggest using jump scares only when starting a chase, as that's when I believe they're most effective. Jump scares shouldn't be the main thing that scared the audience as after the jump scare there's a pause (not always a long one but still a pause) in the action and that's not what you want. Other than that great game and thanks for reaching out and asking me to play!
thanks first of all for playing! Second of all I’ll definitely keep that in mind and try to implement that into my next game! Thanks so much for playing :D
Firstly, apart from the jump scares, the sound design is where your game really shines. the music and the ambient noises were very well placed and have the most potential to carry over into future projects. Good job!
I do think the jump scares took away from the game rather than added to it. The house level had the most Silent Hill-like atmosphere, and the door jump-scare was actually quite good. The third Chapter seemed out of place and lacking context- it was also kind of confusing to navigate.
I think the idea of interconnected stories is a good one, but you need to flesh it out more. Firstly, you have to decide what your game is about. What was this game about? The one common theme I could find was that the characters' realities in their minds do not match the reality of the world they inhabit. Once you have that core concept, you need to really dig into what is scary about that. The thing about horror games is that they are narrative games- you're telling a story that the player is unfolding as they engage with the game.
For an interconnected story, there would need to be not only a common theme, but an adjoining narrative. If it all takes place in the same world, that's cool, but then they could be separate games. For example: what if the child from Chapter 1 is the son of the couple in Chapter 2? How could the narrative and gameplay change to reflect this?
There's also the issue of the mental health aspects in the game, and how mental health can easily be stigmatized in media. I think you'll find more concepts to play with if you focus on the theme you've started of "what is reality, and is what I think to be true actually true?". That's a very interesting concept, and what I liked most about your game besides the sound design. And it's a theme that can easily be about mental health, or it can be about alternate realities, hauntings, possessions, etc.
Sorry I've written like 89 paragraphs or whatever lol. You'll continue to improve for as long as you keep at it, and you have some solid skills to build on. Good luck!
I really appreciate everything you said! I'm glad people are ready to help! I'm def trying to improve for my next game i'm definitely gonna explore and commit more to the story!
Hey, first of all, well done for making this game, and by the comments I can tell you look like a pretty cool guy and all. I see you've put your heart into this, so take what I'm going to say as genuine criticism and things to improve on games to come if you're gonna make others (or you could... you know, ignore me, it's really up to you)
spoilers warning btw
The thing I don't enjoy with these types of games is the fact that you don't really do anything to link the story with what we play. Each chapter you display a text to tell a story, that you conclude by doing the same thing at the very end. In between these things we only see something I guess is supposed to be linked with the story, but I can't seem to understand how. Jumpscares can be okay (even if it's kinda funny for a silent hill inspired game to use that since silent hill doesn't really rely on jumpscares) but I fail to see the correlation between the scary ghost girl and the boy's story for example. And if anything, I think a game is at its most interesting when it tells something through gameplay. Like you could have done something on the first story where, instead of wondering endlessly on a lone road, you made us kill the kid's parents while he imagined something else and just realized it later. I don't see the point of making a game if you're going to tell us the story through text, you'd rather write a creepypasta instead in my opinion.
I'll give you credit where it's due though, some jumpscares spooked me well and the game looks pretty well coded, I didn't spot any bugs at all so that's cool. Also the sounds are well put together, and the atmosphere is pretty good, so props to you for that. (although sometimes it's a bit too loud)
In any case, keep it up, there's still room for improvement, and in the end if you enjoy it, who cares, right ?
(on the other hand, wth is this file size, like bruh xD)
I NEEDED THIS!!! thanks so much for your critic I appreciate everything you said and yeah the file is super large cuz… I made the Forest way to large even though you can’t see it you really only explore like 3% of the forest the rest I copied in by accident lolll. Thanks again I’ll def keep all those things in my mind for the next game!
PRETTY SCARY, YOU GOT ME A COUPLE OF TIMES. I LIKED THE TWISTS AT THE END OF EACH CHAPTER. I ALSO DID A VIDEO ON THIS, IF ANYONE WANTS TO CHECK IT OUT FEEL FREE TO! (IM ONLY ALMOST 14 THOUGH)
haha i enjoyed the video! Also I apologize for the file being so big ik it didn't look like it but I made the forest map super large by accident to the point where it was literally 1 GB of just forest haha. Thanks for playing I appreciate your support :)
I'M ALWAYS SKEPTICAL ON GAMES THAT USE THE SILENT HILL NAME. THIS ONE DOESN'T RELY ON THAT. THIS GAME CREATES IT'S OWN ATMOSPHERE AND EERIENESS. EVEN THOUGH I FOUND MYSELF WONDERING WHAT TO DO NEXT AT POINTS, IT WAS ALWAYS CREEPY AND KEPT ME ON MY TOES. GREAT GAME. CAN'T WAIT TO SEE MORE FROM THIS DEVELOPER. THANK YOU FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO PLAY THIS. IT'S THE SECOND GAME IN THE VIDEO. CHECK IT OUT!
Hi there, I am DragonExplosion and I am a Youtuber. If you like my videos, please leave a like and subscribe at my channel.
This was an interesting horror game that made use of seemingly pure & innocent stories with a twist at the end. The sound effects and the jumpscares played the main role of scaring the player in the second chapter while in the first and third chapter, it was more of the atmospheric experience. For me, the jumpscare of the picture in chapter 2 got me good with the jumpscare and I see how you have implemented what you did in your previous horror game as well as the weird dreams series into this game.
I felt that much more could have been done to the game to make it even scarier such as allowing for more player interaction with the surroundings to slowly discover each piece of the storyline themselves and using sound effects less funky XD. The sound effects did make the game scarier but it didn't really match the theme of the game. Also, some of the jumpscares used didn't really impact me as a player due to its design (It looks copy and pasted). The paragraphs at each beginning of the chapters are missing punctuations and line spacing in general.
I hope to see even more improvements in your games and I wish you good luck in your future endeavours. You can email me if you are interested.

I'm a big silent hill fan and this did not disappoint. I especially liked how you broke it up into 3 different stories. Keep up the good work!
